John’s Ministries leadership team has an opening for a Controller.
The number of people experiencing homelessness or housing instability has risen and we are looking for a person that is mission-driven to undertake all aspects of financial management.
This role is part of a supportive team that prioritizes each person’s wellbeing.

John’s Ministries’ mission is to honor the dignity, restore hope, and create lasting change for those experiencing homelessness or housing instability in the Green Bay community.
We provide services across four locations.
At our two seasonal emergency shelters of last resort, we provide adults experiencing homelessness with a safe place to sleep during the harsh winter months.
At the Micah Center and Wellspring, our two daytime resource centers, we equip adults experiencing homelessness – as well as community members at-risk – with the tools to achieve self-sufficiency.
At St.

We meet each of our guests right where they are at and walk alongside them on their journey.
Our vision is that through a spirit of familiarity, rapport, and trust, each person will leave better than they came.
Objectives: The Controller is a critically important position responsible, along with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, for the financial health and wellbeing of the organization.
The Controller oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization’s finances and is responsible for all accounting and bookkeeping functions.
Roles and Responsibilities: Oversees all aspects of financial management, including financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk Administers the annual budget process; reports significant budget differences to leadership Prepares cash flow projections, reviews and makes recommendations on cash flow needs and efficient purchasing and spending practices Conducts thorough financial analysis to support business decisions Manages the preparation of and reviews financial reports and reconciliations to include updating schedules/preparing and entering all journal entries for the month in preparation/review of financial reports and reconciliation Responsible for cash handling and management policies, ensures Fiscal Policy is adhered to Responsible for accounts payable process Oversees the bi-weekly payroll process using BambooHR Payroll, ensures accurate pay and withholding of employee benefits and garnishments and creates journal entries for posting to the general ledger; prepares quarterly Multiple Worksite Report Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
Reviews audit and makes recommendation to Finance Committee for final approval of the audit Reviews required tax return, Form 990, and produces other tax reports as needed Oversees the annual Worker’s Compensation Audit Maintains accurate accounting for receipt and use of restricted donations Procures business and property insurance, maintains business agreements and contracts for services, such as waste removal, copier leases, etc.
Actively participates and helps direct work groups and other team initiatives Other duties as assigned Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required Minimum 5 years’ relevant accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting CPA Preferred Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks Desktop Pro Demonstrated leadership experience Comfort working with the following issues: mental health, substance abuse, trauma, low-income and/or homeless populations, and/or healthcare preferred Must have a passion for the mission and population served by St.
